Early Monday morning one day this past fall I was driving along pioneer hwy and looked to my left where a field of pumpkins had been worked and put to bed for winter. Remnants of the previously lovely bespoke pumpkins now lay in pieces strewn across the dark dirt field.

My mind began to wonder thinking wow, what a quick season. How did we get from pumpkins just being planted to them being now tilled under? That thought quickly spiraled to a profound revelation. I went from that question to its sad it ends so quickly - the harvest season always ends way faster than your mind comprehends. I guess all seasons are like that. Everywhere you hear someone saying “it's only for a season” or “this is the season of life I am in.” And if you're in the thick of it you may be like me and sometimes feel like a “season” moves a whole lot slower than faster.  As the seasons change in nature, so do they in life, yet those seasons only take shape when there is attention to the preparation.

I promise we will make it full circle to why this blog belongs on a wedding venue page, but for this second please indulge my farmers daughters metaphors.  2025 - The Wendell Stewarts

Cinderella pumpkins don’t just magically arrive at your farm stand, super market or porch. The planning for that crop to be harvested in that season and at that time sometimes will be planned up to 5 years prior. The preparation is long and starts with the mother pumpkin being grown first to even create the seed that will be planted in a field that was chosen up to 2 or 3 years prior. Finally when that seed is placed in a row in its given field it's now up to the preparation of the weather that dictates its nurturing and growth. The farmer must trust that if he has prepared the soil, and watered the crop all he can do is wait and trust that his diligence will yield fruit ready for market.

For the majority of bridal couples planning a wedding often feels long, tedious and stressful when you're in it. You may be thinking “this season will pass”... next year I will be married and it will all be worth it.

But, I caution you to stop and reflect. This year or years in some cases of wedding planning is only the preparation…Your wedding is the season. It happens faster than you ever thought possible. You blink and all those months of planning and preparation melt away - the decision fatigue, the budgeting, the vendor choices - your wedding day is a celebration of the preparation and without that valuable time spent you wouldn’t be saying “I would relive that day over and over!”

So how can you start thinking about your time of wedding preparation in a new light?

I would recommend starting to reflect on how you would answer the following questions and thoughts as a couple:

  1. What type of memories do you want to create in that picture frame of your wedding day? Weddings are all about the memories so how do you want to look back at your special day?

  2. How do you want to feel at every point of your day individually and as a couple?

  3. Who do you really want to invite? Not the folks that society expects to be there - the people you call “home.”

  4. When do you want to have your day that most speaks to you as a couple?

  5. Why is it significant to you as a couple to have a wedding celebration?

  6. Where do you want to celebrate each moment of your day at your venue?

  7. Bonus question: What type of vendors speak to your above answers and would best serve to bring your wedding vision to life?

I know couples love a quick and easy way to make decisions in the planning process, but I also know how overwhelming those decisions can be. We as vendors love to show up and be your fairy godmothers and turn your Cinderella wedding into a fairytale day, but that requires slowing down to first answer these pivotal questions as a couple in order to best help you find your dream team of vendors and clearly communicate your vision for the day. I encourage you to intentionally start planting those seeds today to be ready for all those special memories you get to make when your wedding season aka day arrives!
